Greater
Mankato Military Families Invited to
Complimentary Children’s Theatre Performance
Mankato,
MN, November, 10, 2009
Sacrifice: A term synonymous
with military families. Colonel Michael Rath knows all too well the
sacrifice that military families have had to make during this 8-year
plus war overseas. He is currently serving his third deployment as
Division Surgeon with the 34th ID “Red Bulls” of the
Minnesota Army National Guard in Basra, Iraq. He has spent 27 months
away from home in the last 4 years. Separation from family and
friends while serving multiple deployments can put a strain on not
only the soldiers, but also on the families and especially the
children left behind. In an effort to lift the spirits of Mankato
area military families, Col. Rath and his wife, Carol, are
sponsoring the upcoming Merely Players Community Theatre production
of Wind in the Willows. This is the first children’s show
that Merely Players has produced in nearly 5 years.
Col. Rath and his wife will
be hosting the Wednesday, Dec. 2nd Military Sponsor Night
at 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Center, 110 Fulton, in
Mankato. All area military families are invited to come and enjoy
the performance free of charge.
Col. Rath states that, “Our
soldiers and their families have sacrificed much for the freedoms we
enjoy. All have endured separation, loneliness, worry, uncertainty,
and hardships. These families understand the true meaning of civic
stewardship. My wife and I are honored to be able to offer this gift
to area military families and children. We hope this performance
will make their holiday special.” Carol Rath adds, “As a director of
past Merely Player children’s productions, I know how magical a live
theatre experience can be for young people. This evening will offer
our military families an early Christmas gift of a lasting, positive
memory.” Col. Rath is excited to be able to enjoy the production
alongside other military families while he is home on leave after
being in Iraq for the past 7 months.
